Prelude to Chaos To Glory - Mentorship

FROM THE DESK OF PASTOR SOLOMON NGANGA

MENTORSHIP

Matt 28:19-20 (NKJV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

When I started writing about a Mentor, my mind span around wide and high. I have mentioned frequently how Pastor Phillip Kuria helped me tremendously in my early Christian life.

So who is a Mentor?

1. A mentor is an experienced adviser and supporter: somebody, usually older and more experienced, who advises and guides a younger, less experienced person (according to Thesaurus dictionary)
2. A mentor is a wise and trusted counselor or teacher. Wisdom and trust is an essential commodity that I look for in a mentor.
According to my own experiences with my friend Phillip, I will give you a definition of a mentor.

“He or she is a reliable and trusted person that can help and influence your life. He/she should be your number one friend; a man full of the Holy Spirit, equipped with the Word of God and who inspires and train you in the things of God, diligently and with a passion.”

That is a definition according to Solomon! I do not know how I can put it better than that! However, let us understand what a mentor is according to the Word of God.

The above scripture does not necessary address who a mentor is, but what a mentor duty is.
The duty of a mentor is to make disciples. Go therefore and make disciples.
My friend Phillip, when he became my mentor, he did not just say, “I am going to influence his life. He can only breath when I breathe, go when I go, eat when I eat” Do not ever have that mentality. It is a spirit of dominating a person’s life. It is so unfortunate. It leads to a form of cult, where the followers blindly follow someone. He began by a great desire to make a disciple unto the Lord.
No wonder in my description of what I believe should be a mentor; you have to be a man full of the Holy Spirit. By my experiences, a person who is mentored, usually thrive to learn the things of God with the help of his friend. For the purpose of understanding who a mentor is, I will henceforth term the person as a close friend.

So what characters does that close friend possess?

1. A person who is doing what the Word says,

“Go and make disciples.” If you heart is sincerely in tune with the greatest noble thing we have ever received from our Lord Jesus Christ, then you are in a position to be a mentor as long as you are going to make disciples. People with the mandate of making disciples make the best Mentors. You are assured that whatever they do it is not for their personal gain. They are more interested of doing God’s will than achieving their egos’ pursuits.

2. A person who is able to teach the things of God to the disciple.

A Pastor is a good mentor. He is able to teach the things of God to the disciple. Let there be a desire in your heart to hook up with a person who teaches you the “good stuffs” of the Kingdom! Do not hook up with people who do not nurture and teach you the things of God! It profits you not if you constantly feed yourself things that are contrarily to the Word of God. A true Mentor should be able to teach the things of God to His disciple.

3. A person who is able to recognize the gifts and talents in his friend.

Mentoring is God's way to lift another toward their full potential. I thank God my friend Phillip recognized the gift in me when I did not know what I possessed and helped me nurture it. A mentor is able to identify your greatness even before you ARE AWARE of it. It is the noble duty of a mentor to nurture his or her disciple.

4. A person that can give and take.

The friend should be able to give the person he is mentoring a chance to speak his mind. I have found it very irritating, when a person, because he knows more than you, continue to barrage you with what he knows and rarely gives you a chance to respond. It is usually one sided. Some individuals are like this. Day in day out, they do not give you a chance to grow, though they pour non-stop into your knowledge.

I have found if you want to make a disciple who can listen and grow, give him a chance and listen to him as well. You will be surprised how much that person has caught up with you. Initially when you begin this deliberate relation, you will find your disciple is quiet because he is learning, but as days goes on, his confidence increases.

5. A person who sticks with the person you are helping to encourage their personal growth in Christ.

By that, I mean, a person who does not readily gives up on you when things are not working right! We need more of those kinds of people! A Mentor knows and trusts God and should be there for you in the midst of tough times. He or she should hold your hand and encourage you not to give up!

6. A person who gives extensive time to his disciple.

That is why I said a mentor is a close friend. Only a close friend can sacrifice time for the other. As times goes on, the difference between the mentor and the person been mentored is so narrow. Actually sometimes, you may help mentor someone, and then the person “overtake” you, (for lack of a better term), and you find yourself seeking help and guidance through the same person you mentored. It is usually very easy if that happens, because you still are close friends.

7. An active mentor should be practically involved in the things he is teaching you.

He should not be the kind that says, “Do what I say but not what I do!” He should go ahead of you, setting practical examples! How can you learn right if the person who is your “mentor” does things contrarily to what they say? A mentor should be a person who talk the talk and walk the walk!

8. Mentoring is a relationship and must be deliberate not forced.

You know any relation is doomed to fail if it is one sided. To understand this Truth, raising your children is a form of mentoring. However much I speak of my friend Phillip as my mentor in ministry, my parents were the biggest mentors in my life, as a whole. That is how they were effective in my life and ministry. That is the truth. It is unfortunate some parents have disregarded this noble duty.

I speak a lot of Phillip because he is the one who practically helped me when I was saved. He took me to missions, going to the mountains, in the cave fasting and praying, spending days and nights in the house of God seeking God, speaking the Word of God, introducing me to his friends of like spirit and mission at heart, sharing problems together etc. As I continued to grow in faith, I became a source of strength to my friend Phillip as well, where he could seek my help as well. Do not fear if your student overtakes you. Some things will never change. God used you to make a difference in that person.

Infinity number of mentors

There are an infinity number of mentors. Everybody can be a mentor. I do not want to narrow the scope of been a mentor, because as the Bible says, go and make disciples. I believe a Pastor is number one mentor. Our parents are number one mentor. Counselors are number one mentors. Teachers are very crucial in our lives. All mentors should be close friends. Jesus taught us to go and make disciples because He himself made disciples. He not only mentored them, he was close to them as a reliable and trusted friend! The list is never ending!

I know I have left a lot on the table un-addressed since this topic is wide and extensive, but you now understand the purpose of a finding a mentor who can be of great help in helping you deal with your pains. In the next topic, I will discuss the Importance of finding a Bible believing Church that teaches the Word of God and preaches Jesus as Lord and Savior.

I will finally, give you a scripture that emphasis the continuation of mentorship. This is because, many people would like to be mentored, but those willing to mentor are harder to find.

Tim 2:2 (NKJV)
And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

When you have been taught, grounded and helped to live a Christian life, desire to teach others as well. Be a mentor in one way or another. Mentoring began when people begin to see and desire to live the kind of life that you exhibit.

So friend, do not let your past pains deter you from been effective in helping others. I was taught and now I am committing everything that I have learnt for all those years to faithful men so you can also teach others. I do not want to keep all the “goodies” to myself but I desire in my heart to be a blessing to many.

God bless you.

A CALL TO HOLINESS

A CALL TO HOLINESS

REVIVAL IS ON THE WAY

REPENTANCE , REVIVAL, RESTORATION

A message by PASTOR SOLOMON NGANGA

Joel 1:4 NKJV
" what the chewing locust left, the swarming locust has eaten; what the swarming locust left, the crawling locust has eaten; And what the crawling locust left, the consuming locust has eaten."

From another transaction the KJV

1. The chewing locust is called a Palmer-worm. A Palmer-worm is a type of locust that appears in great numbers devouring herbage ( the fleshy, edible parts of plants)
2. Swarming locust are also the most common locusts we know of. They swarm eating every green leave around. They are unmerciful.
3. Crawling locust are called the Canker worm. They attack leaves as they begin to appear especially at spring time.
4. Consuming locust are called the Caterpillar. They are referred as eating machines. They just keep eating and eating everything and whatever else is left of the tree.

Joel 2:25 NKJV
" So I will restore to you the years that the swarming Locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust, my great army which i have sent you."

I started writing this powerful message by referring to

Joel 2:17 NKJV

" Let the PRIESTS, who minister to the Lord, weep between the Porch and the altar; Let them say , "Spare your people , O Lord, And do not give your heritage to reproach, that the nations would rule over them. Why should they say among the people,"Where is their God."

There was big trouble in Judah and Israel. Men and women had forsaken God. There was no fear of the Lord. Every person did as he wished to. But what caused concern to God more than anything else, is their unrepentant hearts.

Joel 1:5 NKJV
" Awake , you drunkards, and weep; And wail, all you drinkers of wine. Because of the new wine , for it has been cut off from your mouth."

You cant have both sides of the coin at the same time. These people were held captive in their pleasures of this world. They were literally drunkards of wine. They had made a decision to live a life of inequity. The Word of God says as result, " the new wine was cut off from their mouth." The Holy Spirit fire had been quenched in their midst. He could not operate in their midst.

It is very disheartening today because the same problem is facing us again in our generation. Many continue to live their lives in a way that never pleases God. It hurt so much because the mainstream church continue to watch at their safety zones. Church leaders are afraid to speak the truth and lead people and the nations to righteousness because they are afraid of the retribution. They have assumed everything is alright. The message of righteousness and holiness is rarely preached. They are afraid of loosing members if they spoke against sin. It is awful today that it is almost impossible to separate the church and the world. The world is continue to evolve in committing worse sins than ever before.

About 2000 years ago, Jesus rose from the dead and before He ascended into heavens He promised that He was going to send a helper, the Holy Spirit who was going to be with the church. The disciples awaited patiently for the promise and when the Holy Spirit came upon them, they were all filled with the Holy spirit with evidence of speaking in other tongues. This early church was born in such tremendous glory that men and women trembled and worshiped God. There was such a demonstration of power to prove to the heathen and the unbelieving than Jesus had risen from the dead.

Why did Jesus spend 40 days appearing to many before ascending into heaven. He had one mission. To prove to all that He appeared to, that He was alive. That He was the Son Of God. That He had overcome death. That the church could move on in victory.

This church was not born in weakness, it was born in power. The early believers were simple men with no great intellectual, not very rich and wealthy, young and old, that just believed in the Truth, and went along preaching the Gospel with simplicity. Many miracles and wonders followed them.

I am dying so much for the Lord to bring a Revival and awakening in the hearts of men and women around the nations of the world. Let there be an awakening of righteousness. A generation that are so thirsty and hungry for the Lord.

All the above scriptures have one thing in common. There was a time that people had forsaken God; then came a time that they wept and repented their sins and finally their restoration. Brethren and friends alike, the answer to our predicament of living a life full of hopelessness and despair is as laid out BELOW.

RECOGNIZE , REPENT AND BE RESTORED.

THE GLORY OF A TREE

The glory of a tree is the green leaves and the fruits. You love such a tree. But what happens if the leaves and fruits are destroyed? The tree looses it's glory. That's what happened when the church became mediocre, neither Hot nor Warm. The Glory of the church was consumed. The little but terrible Locust attacked the tree of life and whenever one worm was done with it's job of destruction, another continued the destruction. In particular I am amazed by the canker worm. The canker worm destruction occurs at spring time. When the leaves are budding, or the green leaves begin to appear, then this worm appear and begin to work havoc.

BE CAREFUL

Be careful and gird your Loins especially when you begin to bud up. Just when you are shaking yourself from the dust. Just when you have decided to live a holy life. Just when you have overcome some bitter memories that had ensnared you. Then the canker worm appears, trying to destroy what God had started to do in your life. Please don't give in. Tell the enemy, God has restored me and I won't let you destroy my life and ministry.

THE LOCUSTS

As I said, the work of the locust is to destroy. CHEW, SWARM, CRAWL AND CONSUME.
Here is where the Lord is giving us the Word. Our lives have been left so miserable. What are we supposed to do? Just sit and wait for destruction?
No!
We are supposed to go between the Porch and the Altar and weep and pray.

2 chronicles 7:14,15 KJV
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place."

Romans 10;13 KJV
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Dear ones, this is the time to seek the Lord with all of our hearts. I know sometimes you feel like it is hard, but the moment you start seeking Him, you will find it becomes easy and easier, because the Holy Spirit takes over in your infirmities.

Romans 8:26 KJV

" Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

Also another step that I see working in my life is found in the book of

Psalms 69:18-20

" Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.

Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none."

Be open to the Lord for he knows you. We are not strangers to God. Tell God that He knows all about your reproach, your shame and dishonor. Ask Him like David did, to create a clean heart in you.

The moment we begin to desire righteousness and Holiness, that is the mark of a revival. As you continue to seek the Lord, the desire to know Him and read and study the bible increases. You should take the first steps knowing how much you trust God rather than your own ability.

This is very important because you will be able to be ready at all times. My ultimate goal is too see Jesus eye to eye. I realize as soon as a human being leaves this world, all the riches, fame, poverty means nothing any more. That's why it is important to have an intimate relationship with Jesus.

Paul put it in a very interesting way.
That I may know Him.

Philippians 3:10, 11 KJV
" 10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead."

Even though Paul had a such a tremendous experience with God since his conversion on his way to Damascus to persecute Christians, He had such a desire to Know God.
Every single day, we should humble before God so he can continue to reveal Himself to us. I admonish the preachers whom I am one too. Let's us not only seek God only when we need to minister to our flocks but let the burning desire to know God drive us to greater heights of the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

HUMBLE

As we seek God between the porch and the Altar, let us remain Humble. The greatest spirit that is bringing many people lives, ministries and churches down is pride. Let us not think we know all things for only God knows all things.

Romans 12:1 KJV
" Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

“GRACIOUS GOD, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL.”

“GRACIOUS GOD, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL.”

Pastor Solomon Nganga

The building was huge. A handful of people were gathered, squeezed between a few front rows. The building made the small gathering look like a tiny speck but nevertheless they conducted a well organized and meaningful meeting. Those who gathered knew the meaning of the meeting; A youth service.

A few rows back, a young man sat attentively trying to keep up with the on goings. It felt incredibly great for the group. The meeting began with a word of prayer. David, the youth Chairman possessed a tremendous aura of confidence. He was the leader. He couldn’t exhibit any sign of weakness. The young people gathered had one thing in common; they were thirst and hungry for God.

Phillip a youth Pastor was an inspiring speaker. Everybody liked him. He possessed ability to motivate the young and old to serve God.

The young man in the back felt such a tremendous peace. He was expectant. God was about to speak to him. He was not worried. Anything could happen at any time.

Phillip was leading the meeting. David sat at the front row and kept glancing at his wrist watch. He kept shifting his gaze from the service that was going on and kept starring at the door. The young man couldn’t help noticing and began to wondering what was going on.

He should be here. David thought to himself. Time was running fast. Where was the visitor? Everyone knew that a special visitor was coming anytime.

Phillip had already noticed something was amiss. Take it easy. He thought. Everything gonna be ok! Anyway he was a man who was ready at all time. As a servant of God, the bible admonishes his servants to be ready to preach the gospel in and out of season. He knew for sure that the servant of God was ready and when he called him to the pulpit things would be ok.

David had had enough
. He prided himself to be a man in control. This moment was incredibly important and he had to let the small group know that he was in command. He beckoned Phillip and whispered to his ear. Phillip, an alert man had been waiting for this moment. He nodded briefly and walked towards the back row.

In the meantime, the young man bowed in reverence to God. He was cold too. I should have brought my heavy sweater. He thought. But you don’t have to worry, soon the Word of God is gonna light a flame of fire under your skin. As he mulled over these thoughts, he felt a slight tap on his shoulder. He raised his head slowly unsure if that was the touch of God that he had been expecting.

“Solo, today’s preacher is late. Be prepared to preach if he doesn’t show up. Will you?”

The young man could barely speak. He was tongue tied. A thin bead of sweat dripped down his nose. What? Preach? Excuses popped up in his mind. He knew every day he had dreamt of this opportunity. That day he would speak the Word of God.

“Phillip I can’t. How I am going to begin?” Phillip knew this feeling. He had been there too. He looked assuredly at the young man and then left.

The young man face began to twitch nervously. What was going to happen? He prayed with the whole of his heart that the expected preacher would not show up. Or should he? This was an opportunity that was knocking on the door. But the more he thought about this, waves of emotional and physical feelings swept over him.

Oh God. He murmured. Please help me. Beads of sweat flowed shamelessly over his body. The young man was noticeably shaking. He wasn’t cold anymore, but fear of great magnitude he hadn’t experienced before made him hot all over. He bowed his head deep into his hand and began to pray.

Phillip was ready now. He stood and spoke up. He was getting the congregation ready.
“Brethren, I would like to introduce one in your midst. I know him personally and I have seen the fire of God in him. I would like you to put your hands together and welcome him. Brother Solomon.”

The young man stood up. Already his legs were shaking so bad, he could literally hear his knees knocking against each other. This was a young man with no knowledge and experience of preaching. He walked slowly, trying to keep his chin up in the air but failed miserably.

He took over, an unknown and unproven commodity. He murmured a few words trying desperately to gain some courage. He opened his Bible in Isaiah 43:19 and read, “Behold, I am doing a new thing.” All of a sudden the trembling on the lower extremities began to disappear. Words began to form shape and thoughts that were trapped in the deeps of his heart began to be real.

The young man forgot who he was and with tremendous passion exposed the Word of God. Tears of love swelled in his heart and he spoke about the God of his salvation. Gracious God, you are so wonderful, he thought.

The congregation was in tears. Others gaped mouth wide open in disbelief. David and Phillip urged the young man with animated words of ‘Amen, Halleluiah, glory to God, preach it brother, yes, that’s right’ and so on. After a few minutes of tremendous preaching of the Word, the young man stopped, prayed and quietly went back to his seat. The congregation had already caught up with this exciting moment in worship and everybody was praising God.

Little did the young man know that this was the beginning of a tremendous journey that would span him into three continents namely Africa, Europe and now USA preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

GRACIOUS GOD, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL.

The characters of this exciting story are real and I hope you enjoy reading the narrative. This is an event that happened somewhere in a town in Kenya. Please contribute where you can.

Remain humble and contrite in your heart

FROM GOD,S SERVANT PASTOR SOLOMON NGANGA

REMAIN HUMBLE AND CONTRITE IN YOUR HEART

PSALMS 34:18 (KJV)

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Pride will always bring your downfall. I learnt how important is to remain a humble man from my parents. They taught me the Word of God in simplicity and I learnt from watching the kind of life they had. One important aspect associated with humility is a committed prayer life. I will tell you the truth. Many people never realize how a bad spirit of pride sits upon their lives. If I wanted to excel in ministry and life in general,I have to deal with pride on a daily basis! I know some people including some pastors who have forgotten what God has been doing in their lives, ministry and churches is God’s work. They begin to think their success is due to their own effort. They let their pride swallow them and their hearts are seared to recognize the source of their downfall.

It very important that when you have done all things, you are not a cast away from God’s presence due to pride. The unfortunate thing is that you never really know when pride catch up with you. The most important thing is to have real life check often to see if you are stepping off you boundaries. It is often tough to figure out but the more you are sensitive to the Holy Spirit it becomes easier.

Unfortunately some people completely disregarded the Word of God and purposely lead a life full of pride. It is very disheartening. I am most vocal with some ministers who due to their disregard of God’s Word have a form of Godliness but denying God’s power as Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 3:5.I usually don't like to speak this animated but i have seen enough to realize God's deserves all the glory and pride is a killer.

GOOD NEWS

But I have good news. It is possible to uproot those horns of pride in Jesus Name. Usually I don’t like to be this forceful but I know how important it is to the Body of Christ. Don’t let pride destroy what God has done in your life and ministry. This is the same word that I keep repeating to myself. Don't let pride destroy your ministry and life.
The Bible says that David was a man after God’s heart.

In the above verse the Bible says that the Lord is near to them that are of a broken spirit. He saves those that are of contrite spirit. One hallmark of a humble heart is a broken and contrite spirit. According to the Encarta Dictionary, it lays the meaning of contrite so simple; Repentant, deeply sorry for having behaved wrongly.

Many people mistakenly think been humble is a sign of weakness। But here is the truth. Humbleness is the springboard of victory to get you to the next challenge. God’s honors a humble and contrite person that He is so pleased to walk with that person. David was a man after God’s heart and it pleased Him. Let the Word of God destroy all those high castles built in your mind. God is pouring His anointing tremendously in these last days and only the humble can keep up with God. Learn to give all the glory to God.

TESTIMONY

I do remember the many times when I have preached the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. There is tremendous demonstration of God’s power in my meetings. I remember when I began preaching, God’s presence was so much evident with many signs and wonders. I saw sick people get healed, deaf ears opening, many people delivered from demonic oppression and many receiving the Lord Jesus as Lord and Savior in their lives.

At first it was so difficult and I would come off a meeting and I could barely sleep. The glory and anointing of God was so tremendous upon me and I began crying to God to help me give all the glory to God. God is very faithful।

One day He ministered to me that he could help me. He let me know that He was the one ministering to His people and though I was His servant, I could be a witness of all His doing with everybody else. This mentality helped me tremendously; THAT I AM A WITNESS OF THE LORD JESUS. HE COULD DO WHATEVER HE DESIRED and I am only a vessel of honor unto His service.

TESTIMONY

One day I was ministering in a meeting and during the alter call, a woman who was born deaf and dumb was brought in the meeting. I had seen the Lord healing the sick and I was confident God was going to heal the sick exactly as He had spoken. I knew that God’s word was true and His anointing was working tremendously. I remember this miracle happened before hundreds of people gathered. But the Lord had a lesson to teach me as well.

Just as I surely do after I minister, I began praying for God’s people. God’s power was moving and I give the glory to God for all the people He touched that day. I remember coming to this lady and I began to earnestly pray for her. Friend that was the most uphill battle I faced that day. In my mind I knew I wasn’t doing anything wrong but I was dead right wrong about that. I kept trying doing my usual check that I used to confirm God’s healing but nothing was occurring.

Two things happened that day.

First, the congregation continued to praise God. Praise God in all situations. He deserves all the glory. This whole scenario bothered me a lot. What was going on?

Second, I remember walking away from everyone, kneeling down on my knees in all humility and asking the Lord what I was doing wrong. As soon as I consulted God about the situation, God right away made me understand that it wasn’t my show and that He was in control.

I immediately got up and knowing what the Lord had spoken to me, I picked randomly a sister who was sitting at the front row and requested her if she could do the checks on the lady I had prayed for. I pulled away knowing all the glory was unto the Lord.

Immediately, as soon as the lady began talking to the deaf woman, the deaf ears popped open and right away she could hear and talk. I give all the glory to God। God taught me that day it wasn’t about me but about His only Begotten son Jesus। Every day, I humble and ask God to use me as His vessel. I have often found myself pinching myself hard when God’s is performing His Word. I don’t know why I do that but it is my way of reminding myself that all the glory is unto the Lord.

Friend, God cannot share His glory with man, but He wants so much to bring healing and deliverance to this hurting World. He is looking for a vessel He can use comfortably who is not never a man prideful like an ostrich.

ARE YOU THE ONE?
ARE YOU READY?

Your comments are deeply appreciated.
